Description

The Forestwest BM11167 20" Petrol Lawn Dethatcher & Power Rake is designed for removing built-up thatch from established lawns and preparing tired turf for renovation. Powered by a 7HP petrol engine, it uses a wide 20" flail reel to loosen and lift accumulated dead grass, stems and organic material from the lawn surface.

The BM11167 is a manual-push lawn dethatcher. The petrol engine powers the flail reel, while the operator pushes and guides the machine across the lawn. This simple drive arrangement makes it suitable for dethatching residential lawns, larger grassed areas, acreage properties and landscaping applications where a petrol-powered scarifier or power rake is preferred over a smaller electric machine.

The working depth can be adjusted from 0.5" to 0.75" to suit different lawn and thatch conditions. An additional 0.5" adjustment range is provided to compensate for normal blade wear, helping maintain an effective working position as the flails wear over time.

With a manufacturer-rated productivity of up to 13,200 sq.ft. per hour at 1.5mph, the BM11167 provides a wide working path for larger lawn renovation jobs. Actual productivity will vary depending on lawn condition, working depth, thatch density and operator walking speed.

Complete Your Lawn Renovation

If the existing lawn needs to be completely removed rather than dethatched, see the Forestwest BM11166 12" Turf Cutter. A turf cutter removes the grass and root layer, while the BM11167 is designed to work through built-up thatch while generally leaving the existing lawn in place.

After dethatching, compacted established lawns may also benefit from soil aeration. See the Forestwest BM11132 36" Tow Behind Lawn Aerator for larger lawn and property maintenance applications.

For larger lawn establishment or renovation projects requiring seed or fertiliser application, see the Forestwest BM11170 Seed & Fertiliser Spreader.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does a lawn dethatcher or power rake do?

A lawn dethatcher or power rake loosens and removes accumulated thatch from the lawn surface. Thatch is the layer of dead stems, roots and organic material that can build up between the green grass and soil.

2. Is the BM11167 self-propelled?

No. The BM11167 is manually pushed by the operator. The 7HP petrol engine powers the flail reel, while the operator controls the travel speed by pushing and guiding the machine across the lawn.

3. What is the working width of the BM11167?

The BM11167 is fitted with a 20" flail reel, providing a wide working area for lawn dethatching and renovation.

4. Can the working depth be adjusted?

Yes. The working depth can be adjusted from 0.5" to 0.75" to suit different lawn and thatch conditions.

5. What is the additional 0.5" adjustment for?

The additional adjustment range is intended to compensate for normal flail wear, allowing the working position to be adjusted as the blades wear over time.

6. Is a lawn dethatcher the same as a turf cutter?

No. A dethatcher removes built-up thatch while generally retaining the existing lawn. A turf cutter cuts underneath the turf and root layer so the lawn can be removed completely.

7. Is a dethatcher the same as a lawn aerator?

No. A dethatcher works through the thatch layer near the lawn surface. An aerator creates openings in the soil to help improve air and water movement through compacted ground.

8. When should I dethatch a lawn?

Dethatching may be appropriate when an established lawn has excessive thatch build-up that is restricting water, air or nutrient movement. Lawn condition, turf variety and seasonal timing should be considered before carrying out aggressive renovation work.
