In January 2021, Forestwest shared a demonstration carried out for customers preparing firewood for a cottage in Melbourne. They brought several pieces of hardwood to our then Melbourne showroom so they could see how a kinetic splitter handled their timber.
What was demonstrated?
The original demonstration used a 7 Ton kinetic log splitter. The timber included gum, yellow box and other hardwood that was not identified in the article. After the demonstration, the customers chose a 15 Ton machine for additional capacity.
This is a historical demonstration. The 7 Ton and 15 Ton machines mentioned here are historical models. The video should not be read as a test of all current Forestwest machines.
What does the demonstration tell you?
It provides an example of kinetic splitting on customer-supplied Australian hardwood in Melbourne. It also shows why discussing your actual timber is useful when choosing a machine.
The original article did not record full log dimensions or moisture measurements. Species, size, moisture, knots and grain all affect results, so this demonstration cannot establish a guaranteed capacity for every piece of hardwood.
Choosing from the current range
For today's products, compare Forestwest's current 12–40 Ton log splitters. Electric models include 12 Ton, 18 Ton and 26 Ton options; petrol models include 18 Ton, 34 Ton and 40 Ton options.
If you are considering a compact electric machine, view the current BM11130 12 Ton model or the BM11130S with stand and catch tray. These links describe current products, not the historical machine in the video.
Discuss your timber before choosing
Measure the length and diameter of your logs and tell us the wood type and condition. Our log splitter buying guide explains how to compare power supply, capacity and working height.
For current store details or a possible demonstration, contact Forestwest's Melbourne or Perth team before travelling or bringing timber. Demonstration and model availability should be confirmed with the team.
